Completing our special edition of the Brotherhood

Completing our special edition of the Brotherhood Spotlight series, we are pleased to highlight our other Neophyte, Bro. DeVontae Williams, 2-ΘΡΛ-SP24 (@officially.djw).

Bro. Williams is a native of Macon, Georgia. He attended Georgia Southern University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. He currently serves as a Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton. Throughout his professional tenure, Bro. Williams has consistently demonstrated exceptional servant leadership, illustrated by his rapid progression within his field. He enjoys being a role model to junior engineers, ensuring to share his expertise and foster growth within the industry.

Bro. Williams credits his personal and professional development on the profound influence of his mentor, Bro. Wilbur Manson. Under Bro. Manson's guidance, he gained early insights into the values of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, particularly emphasizing scholarship, mentorship, and civic engagement. Inspired by this, Bro. Williams was motivated to pursue membership himself and further embrace the fraternity's brotherhood ethos while giving back to the community through educational and mentorship initiatives.

Within the ΘΡΛ Chapter, Bro. D. Williams actively contributes through his involvement in several committees, including Information Technology, Budget and Finance, Membership, and Housing. Finally, Brother D. Williams is excited to participate in the fraternity’s National Programs, particularly Project Alpha and Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College.

This special edition of our biweekly Brotherhood Spotlight series will be twofold. We are pleased to highlight our Spring 2024 Neophytes, starting with Bro. Lauren Ellison, 1-ΘΡΛ-SP24 (@ren_je).

Bro. Ellison was raised in Indianapolis, IN, and attended Florida A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also attended the University of Mississippi, earning his Master of Business Administration. Bro. Ellison is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, serving 15 years as an active duty Surface Warfare Officer. In his career, he has been deployed numerous times around the globe, taught at the collegiate level, recruited officers for the United States Navy, and organized community service projects. Bro. Ellison is selected for promotion to Commander and screened to take command of a United States Navy warship. Bro. Ellison is married to his wife, Sierra (🔺), of seven years and has two young children.

Bro. Ellison pursued membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. due to his experiences as a college recruiter. During this time, he observed young students lacking community leaders, unprepared to matriculate through higher education, and unaware of scholarship opportunities. Bro. Ellison looks forward to serving the ΘΡΛ Chapter seat through education, scholarship, and service initiatives through Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated's National Programs: Project Alpha and Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College.

Continuing our biweekly ΘΡΛ Brotherhood Spotlight series, we are pleased to highlight our current Chapter Dean of Membership Development and the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the @wtsyphaxfoundation, Bro. Kaseem Smith (@meessak).

Bro. Smith was born and raised in Sanford, North Carolina. He attended Winston-Salem State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Bro. Smith currently works as a Communications Manager at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Bro. Smith was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the fall of 2004 through the Beta Iota Chapter at Winston-Salem State University. He joined Theta Rho Lambda in 2020 and currently serves as the Chapter Dean of Membership Development and the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Dr. William T. Syphax Charitable Foundation. He also serves as chair of the Membership and Reclamation Committee and will serve as Chairman of the Annual Black and Gold Gala again after having served as chairman for the 56th Gala. Additionally, he has served as Beta Iota's chapter president, and Beta Nu Lambda Chapter's Associate Editor to the Sphinx, and Director of Educational Activities.

Bro. Smith enjoys activities such as traveling, cooking, visiting amusement parks, and is an avid roller coaster enthusiast.

Continuing our biweekly ΘΡΛ Brotherhood Spotlight series, we are pleased to highlight our current Sergeant-at-Arms, Bro. Tylin Scott (@tyrificone).

Bro. Scott is originally from Minneapolis, MN. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Old Dominion University in 2018. Prior to earning degrees in engineering; Bro.Scott served in the United States Navy, and retired from active service after twenty years in 2016. Bro. Scott currently works as a Systems Engineer with the United States Navy.

Bro. Scott was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Fall 2022, through the Theta Rho Lambda chapter. He currently serves as the chapter's Sergeant-at-Arms, and also serves on various other committees within the chapter. In his spare time; Bro. Scott enjoys activities such as reading, traveling, music and has a burgeoning interest in politics.
